Wax Removal

Wax Removal

During the appointment, we begin by asking you a few questions to understand your ear related history following which we will inspect your ears to ascertain the extent of wax impaction.

We will then use a gentle suction device to carefully remove soft or compacted wax. The suction is controlled and precise, ensuring it’s comfortable and effective in clearing the ear canal without causing any harm.

If there are stubborn or harder pieces of wax, we may either use a curette, a small, specialised instrument, to gently scoop out the wax or recommend the use of wax solvents and repeat the procedure as a follow up.

To ensure the wax removal appointment goes smoothly, here are some helpful tips for preparing:

  •  Avoid Using Ear Drops Immediately Before: If you’ve been using ear drops to soften the wax, avoid using them for at least 24 hours before the appointment. This helps us assess the wax properly and decide the best removal method.
  • Avoid attempting to clean the ears yourself: Avoid inserting anything into the ear canal, such as cotton buds, as this can push wax deeper.
  • Stay Relaxed: The procedure is generally quick and comfortable, but being relaxed can make it easier for us to complete the wax removal efficiently.
