Hearing Tests

We begin by learning about your child’s hearing and overall health history. Next, we may use a specialised camera to capture images of their ears and perform a middle ear function assessment (tympanometry).

We will then use Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) to assess the hearing of your child. This engaging, child-friendly test turns hearing assessment into a fun experience. During VRA, your child will sit on your lap while sounds are played through speakers or earphones. When the child respond by turning their head, they’re rewarded with a visual stimulus on a screen. This interactive approach keeps them engaged while allowing us to accurately assess their hearing levels.

We’ll go over the results with you and discuss the best next steps for your child’s care. After the assessment, a detailed report will be sent to both you and your child’s referring doctor.

We recommend scheduling the appointment after your child’s nap and mealtime to help ensure they are well-rested and comfortable.

Younger children will then undergo play audiometry which is a fun and interactive way we assess hearing. Using headphones, we present sounds while teaching your child to complete a simple play task.

Once they understand the game, we adjust the sounds to determine the softest sounds they can hear at different pitches in each ear.

To further evaluate speech perception, we include a speech discrimination task using pictures to see how well your child can distinguish between similar speech sounds.

We’ll go over the results with you and discuss the best next steps for your child’s care. After the assessment, a detailed report will be sent to both you and your child’s referring doctor.

Our comprehensive hearing assessment is designed to address your unique needs, starting with a detailed discussion about your hearing concerns and overall health.

We begin by taking high-resolution images of your ears using our specialised camera. Next, we assess middle ear function through tympanometry. To understand your hearing ability, we measure how softly you can hear different sounds across the different pitches and assess your ability to understand words in quiet.

After the assessment, we take the time to explain your results in detail, ensuring you have a clear understanding of your hearing health and the best next steps. We will also send you and your doctor the report.

Sudden hearing loss is serious. If your hearing has suddenly changed in one or both ears within the last few days, contact us right away.

We offer audiological assessments for pre-employment checks, ideal for police, Australian Defence Force personnel, and pilot’s license candidates. Please be aware that there are no medicare rebates available for these pre-employment hearing tests.
